Controlling the Climate Control

You rely on your car’s AC to control the temperature within the passenger cabin, but what happens when the air conditioner itself needs to be brought under control? You bring your vehicle to us, of course. Although we’ll need to check the system to identify the problem with accuracy, we see a few common issues when customers bring in their autos for AC service. For example, if the system operates but fails to cool the air adequately, the air conditioner may be low on refrigerant. It may only need a recharge. However, this shouldn’t be a frequent need. A loss of refrigerant that occurs often or sooner than expected may point to a leak somewhere in the system. Also, a broken wire or blown fuse prevents the system from getting the power it needs to operate. If it’s not getting an electrical current, we’ll need to determine why and make the necessary repair. A compressor that’s going bad may produce a myriad of symptoms, including strange noises when the AC is engaged, fluid leaks where they shouldn’t occur, and warm air blowing from the vents. Our ASE-certified technicians can check the compressor to determine if you need a new one or if something else is causing the signs you’re reporting to us. Other problems can occur in the expansion valve/orifice tube, condenser, or dryer. You may even have trouble regulating temperature if your blend air door becomes stuck, a problem that most often occurs when the car has been sitting unused, or the AC hasn’t been turned on in awhile.
